Take the Scupper by the handle with one (or two hands for more leverage) and push into the sand while twisting side to side. When you can no longer dig any further, slowly pull the Scupper out. Use your hit or hand to hit the sand out of the Scupper. You can use this extra sand for bumpers around the template!
